I don't think I even need to comment on my sadness over this idea:

Wife induces labor so husband can go to Bears game.

Has giving birth become so trivial in our society? Extremely sad, indeed. And this is coming from someone who was on the edge of her seat watching the Colts game!

at the risk of being thrown out of the blog-o-sphere entirely, I kind of understand her decision, as I am also married to a serious sports fan. It didn't sound like she was coerced, rather, she made a decision that would serve both her needs and her husbands needs. we can't stand in her shoes and judge. maybe she felt that if she waited, went into labor on Sunday and he had to miss the game (that he's been looking forward to so much) that it would have put too much stress on her family... and that this was a better solution. sorry... hope you don't think I'm a cop out... but that's how I feel...

Being from the land of fanatical college sports all I can say is I am not surprised.

It bothers me when we act like we can schedule a birth the same way we'd move a haircut appointment if we had something more presssing to do.

The woman in this situation was quoted as saying, "I thought, how could [my husband] miss this one opportunity that he might never have again in his life?" She is showing that much consideration over a GAME, and her husband accepts her offer to induce for his convenience?

I am not a fan of induction. I've had too many friends who have had bad experiences with this medical procedure, such as the combination of induction and epidural--like putting on the gas and the brakes at the same time, leading to distress and complications. I have no problem with these interventions when they are necessary, but I can't respect the choice to go that route for a trivial reason or matter of convenience.
